  • Cook Time: 30 mins

Serves: 1-6

Category: Dessert

Ingredients

  • 400g sugar
  • 100ml water
  • A pinch of Cream of Tartar
  • ½ tsp vinegar
  • Granny Smith apples
  • 1 tsp red food colouring

Method

  1. Dissolve the sugar (along with the water, Cream of Tartar, vinegar and food colouring) over a medium heat. Once the sugar is dissolved and begins to bubble, turn the heat up and stop stirring.
  2. Boil for 10 minutes until water forms into a syrup consistency.
  3. The syrup will be thickened and the bubbles larger. It's best to test the syrup to determine if it is ready. Drop small amounts of syrup into a bowl with water. Leave the droplets in the water for about 10 seconds before you feel the consistency with your fingers. If the syrup drops are soft and malleable, the syrup needs to cook a bit longer. If a solid, hard syrup ball is formed, it is time to start dipping the apples.
  4. Cover the apples completely and serve.
