The pole / track should extend approx. 15-30cm past either side of the window and approx. 12-15cm above the top of the window. This will help minimise the light when curtains are closed and also allow for curtains to be gathered either side of the window when open.
The next step is to measure correctly. The width will depend on your curtain pole or track, and the length will determine where you want your curtains to end. The most common drops are to the sill, below the sill or to the floor.
Measure the full length of your curtain pole / track. If measuring a pole, do not include the finials (the decorative ends). Measure from one end to the other...
Curtain pole - measure from the top of the pole to where you want the curtains to end. We recommend adding on 3cm to account for the material above the eyelet.
Curtain pole using rings - measure from beneath the pole to where you want the curtains to end.
Curtain track - to measure the length, measure from the top of the track to where you want the curtains to end.
For Example
If your measurements come to 66" (167cm) wide and 90" (229cm) long, you would need one set of curtains which are 66" width × 90" drop. (Each curtain measures 66" width × 90" drop which allows for double the width so the curtains will gather).
We would recommend checking the measurements a few times just to be 100% sure.
B&M sell two different types of curtains: eyelet & pencil pleat.
Eyelet Curtains - these are designed to be hung from a curtain pole.
