Whitchurch Locals Welcome New B&M Store
12 September 2018
Customers in Whitchurch were delighted this morning as B&M opened a new store on Waymills Road.
The new store is a boost to the local community with more than 30 jobs created for people from the area.
Visitors to the store will be able to browse a wide range of branded and own label goods, including toys, groceries, health & beauty and pet ranges.
As part of the opening day celebrations, the store staff were asked to nominate a local charity they think truly deserves some VIP treatment, so picked Headway.
The charity provides support to brain injury survivors and their families, and works to improve life after brain injury.
Staff chose their VIP guest as Diane Tew, who sustained a brain injury as a result of a loss of oxygen to the brain in 2015. She was left with psychological and cognitive problems, including memory loss, and requires support with everyday living.
Diane, 50, has been volunteering at Headway - the brain injury association's Whitchurch charity shop - since it first opened in July last year, and as a result her confidence has grown massively.
"Most people know very little about brain injury, but it's something that can happen to anyone at any time," said Diane.
"I'm so pleased the staff at B&M want to help raise awareness of brain injury and support the invaluable work of Headway."
In addition to opening the new store, they were given £250 worth of B&M vouchers as a thank you for all of their hard work in the community.
The store manager, Chris Hynes, said: "Headway really stood out for us as they go the extra mile for local people living with long-term effects of brain injury.
"We wanted to give their volunteer, Diane, some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work she does. We hope that our donation can help her and the rest of the team continue the great work they do."
