Peterborough Welcomes 1st Ever B&M Store
23 June 2016
Peterborough received a welcome jobs boost with the arrival its first B&M store.
The variety retailer has over 450 stores nationwide but this is the first to open in the cathedral city.
And with the creation of over 50 new jobs, the new store at Boongate Retail Park is a welcome addition to the local jobs market.
The Bargains Store, which opened on Thursday, will stock a variety of products from food and drink to toys, toiletries and homeware ranges.
Deputy Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor Keith Sharp and Miss Christine Wilson from Peterborough City Council were B&M’s special guests for the day, cutting the ribbon to officially open the new store.
Representatives from local charity Foodbank were also present, invited by the store as their chosen charity. They received £250 worth of B&M vouchers as a thank you for their help in opening the new store.
B&M Peterborough store manager Nigel Bedford said: “We’re feeling really positive about the creation of new jobs for local people and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.
“We are all really excited to get the doors open and welcome our new customers through the doors.”
To keep the celebrations going on into the weekend, young shoppers will be able to transform themselves with free face painting available on Saturday.
