New Jobs Boost for Merthyr Tydfil as B&M Opens Second Store
30 January 2015
One of the UK’s fastest growing retailers, B&M opened its second store in the town on Friday morning, creating 75 jobs in the process. Hundreds of shoppers turned up to take advantage of thousands of great bargains in-store, and the day proved to be a big success.
Merthyr’s new B&M Home Store opened on the Dowlais Top Retail Park on the site of the former MFI and Allied Carpets.
In order to make the opening even more special, the variety retailer named a ‘Local Hero’ to be present on the store’s first day of trading. Tracy Burke was nominated by customers and became B&M’s VIP for the morning, cutting the ribbon with Mayor, Councillor Brian Mansbridge.
The nomination was made in recognition of Tracy’s work for Cancer Aid who help support both sufferers and their families throughout the Merthyr Borough.
Mark Edwards, B&M’s Store Manager at Merthyr Tydfil Dowlais said: “We wanted a true VIP to officially open our new store and what better way than to ask customers to nominate those who make a real difference to people’s lives in and around Merthyr Tydfil”.
Not only were Tracy and her team invited to the store to cut the ribbon and take part in bag-packing, the Cancer Aid manager also received £250 worth of vouchers to spend in store for further fund-raising.
