B&M Opens New Portlethen Store with Assist from a VIP
03 March 2017
B&M opened their new Portlethen store with an assist from a very special guest.
The newly developed Home store with Garden Centre has created 50 jobs for local people at its location on Portlethen Retail Park.
Aberdeen footballer, Niall McGinn, made an appearance on loan from his club to help celebrate the opening of the new store, ahead of Aberdeen’s upcoming Scottish Cup Quarter-Final game.
The midfielder, who made a goal scoring appearance at the 2016 Euro Championship, is a big fan of the store and is regularly seen scouting the aisles for his next bargain.
McGinn, 29, kicked off the day’s events which also included a visit from the deputy Provost, Councillor Allison Grant.
In an interview with the Evening Express, he said: “I’m delighted to see B&M opening in Portlethen and was shocked to hear they nominated me as their local hero, I’m a big fan and regularly visit the Aberdeen store.”
Martin Canavan, store manager at B&M Portlethen, said: “Niall’s a great sport – we couldn’t thank him enough for helping us open up the new store, all the staff and customers have loved having him here this morning.
He added: “It’s been a fantastic morning and the feedback we’ve received from customers about their new store has been really positive so far.”
Visitors to the store will be able to browse an extensive DIY, decorating and furniture range, alongside a wide variety of branded products including toys, food & drink and pet items.
The addition of a garden centre ensures that keen gardeners will be able to grab their own bargains.
The second leg of the opening day festivities occurs on Saturday 4th March, when a face painter will be subbed in to transform customers into their favourite super heroes, animals or characters.
B&M is one of the UK’s fastest growing retailers, and continued heading to the top in 2017 with the Portlethen store opening.
