B&M Boosts Local Economy with Brand New Store in Abbey Walk Retail Park, Selby

The community of Selby welcomed B&M's brand new discount store into Abbey Walk Retail Park this morning at 8am on Wednesday 17th April 2024. Unveiled by local charity Selby & District Foodbank, the B&M store manager and colleagues were thrilled to invite their first customers through the door.

With a boost to the local economy, B&M's brand-new Abbey Walk store has created 35 jobs for local people while providing the community with big brands at low prices. After taking possession of a previous Wilko, the store has since undergone an extensive internal and external refurbishment programme, providing a space of 19,958sqft full of all kinds of amazing discounts for customers to explore.

The store manager at B&M said: "We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.”

Customers can expect to find a wide variety of groceries, essentials and big brands for the best possible price including a range of food, drink and pet food. There is also a fantastic selection of quality health & beauty products, homeware, electricals, DIY, toys, games, gifts and plenty more to explore.

For the grand opening, store colleagues were asked to nominate a local charity who they think deserves the spotlight for the work they do in the community. They chose the team from Selby and District Foodbank to take the reigns and officially open Abbey Walk Retail Park’s new B&M store.

Selby & District Foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in the local area. Selby & District Foodbank don't believe that

anybody in the community should have to face going hungry. This is why they provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in a crisis. Food is donated, sorted and distributed by the foodbank to people in need.

The store manager of B&M commented: “Selby and District Foodbank really stood out for us, so we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work that they have done. We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”
