The Top 4 City Breaks within 2 hours of the UK
18 February 2020
City breaks make for the perfect getaways for people in a rush. They offer the best opportunities to discover new worlds, while still making it back for your Monday morning meeting (just remember to take your sunglasses off).
And when you can land in your destination of choice in less than 2 hours, you’ll wonder why every weekend isn’t a long weekend! Take a look at our list of the best European city breaks for 2020.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam is one of the coolest cities on the continent, and you can find yourself in a canalside bar sipping a cold beer or a hot coffee in less time than it takes to watch a game of football (provided it goes to extra time!).
Daily flights are available from the UK’s major airports, including a 1 hour 35 minute jaunt from Edinburgh. Take a bike ride along one of Amsterdam’s 165 canals, or go by boat and visit the many museums and galleries.
Brussels
In neighbouring Belgium, there’s another capital city full of culture, Gothic architecture, beer and (more importantly) chocolate!
For those in the Greater London area, daily flights to Brussels take 1 hour 15 minutes on average, from all of London’s airports. That means less time travelling, and more time enjoying the Musee des Beaux-Arts d’lxelles and Grand Place: an enclosed cobblestone square ‘choc-full’ of breath-taking 18th century architecture.
Or if you simply came for the chocolate, there’s plenty of chocolatiers where you can sample the world famous Belgian chocolate. Yum!
B&M Top Tip: even in spring, some European cities can reach temperatures upwards of 20°C. So it’s best to be prepared! Take a look at our Sun Cream selection; you’ll find the biggest brands like Malibu, Piz Buin, Nivea and much more.
Paris
Wherever you decide to go, you can count on B&M to fly you there in style. Our newest luggage ranges feature the latest suitcases and travel accessories, like our Geo Print, Metallic Gem and Chevron Ochre suitcases.
And if you’re looking for your next fashion fix, there are daily flights from every major UK airport to une Capitale Mondiale de la Mode. If you’ve got enough spends, you’ll want to visit world famous fashion houses like Dior, Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent to name a few.
For those on a modest budget, there’s still plenty to see and do in the City of Love. A trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower is a must, where you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the city from the 324 metre high landmark.
On the ground floor, you can’t move for bistros, cafes, patisseries and boulangeries where you can gorge on fine wine, rich coffee and decadent pastries. Ooh la la!
Copenhagen
Delve deep into a treasure trove of Viking history in historic Copenhagen! There are lots of great museums and palaces that will transport you back in time (1 hour 50 minutes from Manchester? That’s fast time travel!).
Visit Frederiksstaden, an 18th-century rococo district; wine and dine at Nyhavn, the 17th century canal and harbour lined with bars, restaurants and cafes in a kaleidoscope of colour; and take an afternoon to explore the 400 year-old Rosenborg Castle, home to Christian IV of Denmark.
B&M Top Tip: wherever you jet-off to, don’t forget these handy travel essentials! Our 12 Piece Travel Bottle Set, Alphabet Luggage Tag and 2-in-1 Luggage Scales will help ensure your precious city break goes off without a hitch.
