National Sandwich Day: Taking Your Lunch from Blandwich to Sandwich!

Sandwiches – they’re the building block of the UK’s diet. Two slices of bread containing all manner of ingredients – from cheese and ham to tuna mayo, bacon, lettuce and tomato to sausage and onion – there’s no end to our creative flair when it comes to making brilliant butties.

However, we can often go to school or work with a less than desirable lunch. You deserve more than two slices of white bread and a bit of cheese. You need a sandwich that wows.

With this in mind and to celebrate National Sandwich Day, we’ve put a few easy sandwich tips to make your butty the lunchtime hero.
 

Meatballs!


Had spaghetti and meatballs for dinner? Put some meat and sauce aside, add to a baguette or sub – and voila, you have one tasty sandwich.

Spice up your mayo

Mayo tastes good on pretty much any sandwich, but improvements can be made. Mixing your mayo with roasted garlic, herbs, spices, blue cheese or good old chilli sauce can put your sad sandwich on to another level of sassiness.

Stretch your Sunday Roast

If you can put aside a bit of your Sunday roast beef, lamb or chicken, with a few veggies add a sprinkle of cheese and warm it up on a panini grill, you have reached sandwich nirvana. We promise.

Leftover Loveliness

What is it with leftovers? They taste so good! And put inside a pitta, or packed onto a wrap, you can use rice, salad, chilli con carne, curry, sliced roast potatoes and anything else you have in the fridge. Whack it all in and enjoy!

Condiments

 
What’s the use of having a kitchen-full of condiments if you don’t use them? Get the horseradish on beef, mustard on ham or pesto with salad or chicken. And if you’re a lover of Marmite, add it to cheese. It’s a match made in heaven.
 

Fruit!

Yes you heard right. If you want a healthy sandwich idea - just add fruit. If you’ve never had an apple and cheddar sandwich, a brie and grape butty or a blue cheese and fig club, come back to us when you have.
