How to Get a Summer Body: Workouts and Tips
05 May 2021
In this article, the team at B&M discuss boosting your metabolic rate, building muscle and putting together an achievable full body workout in order to feel your best this summer. Let’s get started:
Set Objectives
Be specific with your goals. Vague objectives like “lose weight” or “build muscle mass” is very difficult to track.
Instead, aim to constantly improve your “personal bests” - for example, how far you can run in a certain amount of time or how much you can lift while strength training.
Stay Hydrated
Drinking water is a great way to improve digestion and reduce bloating (often mistaken for belly fat) as well as flushing out toxins and keeping blood sugar levels down.
You’ll feel less sluggish, your skin will clear and your tummy will appear much flatter.
B&M Top Tip: Always carry water when exercising.
Eat Healthily
Don’t cut down heavily on food; this can be dangerous for your health and won’t do a great deal to help you get in shape. After all, you need calories to burn in order to achieve more when working out!
Instead, change the types of food you eat. Go for lean proteins - which can come in pre-prepared drink, snack or supplement form as well as white meats, fish, green veggies, pulses and grains like wheat.
You also need loads of fibre to boost your metabolism and digestive system. Fruits (raw or in snack bars), granola and other cereals, nuts, veg and pulses are superb sources.
B&M Top Tip: Smoothies and shakes help to pack in tonnes of fibrous fruits, veg and protein supplements in one go. Blenders and shakers are ideal kitchen additions for this.
Get Moving
Here are some of our favourite exercises to help you achieve a fit and healthy body.
Workouts can be targeted to improve certain areas - for example, you can build your arms with tricep dips and bicep curls - while others are great all-rounders.
A plank position, where you lie flat on your front with your legs straight behind you, then lift your body weight onto your elbows and toes, keeping a straight back, tones a huge number of muscles!
B&M Top Tip: Grab any opportunity to move - whether you dance to music while cleaning the house or go for a stroll during your lunch break.
Keep It Interesting
We all start a fitness regime with the best of intentions - but it can be so easy to let it slip. To avoid this, keep trying new things. New workouts, new running routes, new healthy dishes. This will keep you engaged as you work towards your goals.
So, if you’re wondering how to get a summer body without a personal trainer, all you need to do is clarify your goals, drink water, adjust your diet, get physical often and mix things up occasionally!
