Halloween Party Snacks - The Best of Pinterest’s Spooky Treats

24 October 2016

Here at B&M we love Halloween, so with all the spookiness just around the corner we couldn’t resist logging onto Pinterest and scouring through all the wonderful pictures to find some recipes for delicious halloween snacks. We found loads, but we’ve put our favourites here so you can give them a go yourself.

Carrot “Pumpkins” from Little Dairy on the Prairie

A healthy alternative to the classic Halloween snacks are these yummy carrot “pumpkins”. Fat carrots work best!

These are ridiculously easy to make. With a sharp knife, simply slice two slits lengthwise down the carrot. The distance between the slits will be the width of your pumpkin stem.

Now for the slightly tricky part - carefully make an angled cut into the carrot, so that it connects to the first slit you made, then you should be able to pull out a triangular section of the carrot. Repeat this on the other side, slice into rounds and voila! You have yourself a bunch of delicious carrot pumpkins!

B&M Top Tip: For more rounded pumpkins, carve the angles at the top of each pumpkin with a small knife.

Pumpkin Rice Krispie Cakes from Cincy Shopper

Here's what you'll need:

  • 6 cups of Rice Krispies
  • 3 tbs butter
  • 10oz marshmallows
  • Red & yellow food colouring
  • 12 tootsie rolls (any bits of chocolate will do!)
  • 1 green fruit roll up (if you can get your hands on them)

These little Rice Krispie pumpkin treats are so cute, and really easy too! First of all, melt your butter into a large sauce pan over a low heat, then add your marshmallows and stir until they have completely melted.

Remove the pan from the hob and add four drops of the red food colouring and two drops of the yellow and mix until you have a fabulous bright orange colour, before mixing in the Rice Krispies. If you have any, apply some non-stick cooking spray to your hands and form small balls with the mixture, in the shape of a pumpkin.

Now for the stalk! Just add the chocolate to the top of each pumpkin while they’re still warm and cut small ‘leaves’ from the fruit roll up.

Bowl of Worms from One Little Project

What you need:

  • 150 flexible straws
  • 1 package of raspberry jelly
  • Whipping cream
  • Green food colouring
  • 3 packages of unflavoured gelatin
  • 1 mason jar

These are a delicious and realistic bowl of jelly ‘worms’ that the kids are sure to love! Firstly, mix the jelly and gelatin in a large bowl, before adding three cups of boiling water. Stir the mixture until all the gelatin has dissolved, before putting it in the fridge for about twenty minutes.

During this time, start getting your straws ready by stretching them all open (this is a great job for the kids if they want to help!). Put the straws into the mason jar, making sure the flexible parts are at the bottom. Then measure out ¾ of a cup of whipping cream and add around 15 drops of your green food colouring.

Once your jelly mixture is ready, remove it from the fridge and mix this with the whipping cream and stir. Now for the fun part! Pour the whole mixture into the tops of the straws and leave it in the fridge for 24 hours until it has set.

Once the time has passed, wiggle the first straw out of the jar and run it under hot water for a few seconds until the jelly residue on the outside has washed off, then squeeze out the worm. Repeat this on the other straws and you have a rather disgusting looking (but delicious) bowl of worms!

Skull Cucumber Salad from Real Simple

Another healthy treat that the whole family will love - Skull Cucumber Salad! This one’s really easy to do, simply cut a small curved section from each cucumber slice using a small knife, then poke ‘eyes’ into the other end using the flat end of a wooden skewer. Then, using the pointy end of the skewer, draw three thin lines to create the mouth and you’ll have your very own cucumber skulls!

Once your skulls are ready, you can add whatever you want to make it into a salad. Carrots, red pepper and butternut squash all go really well together and are good for you too.

Jack-O-Lantern Fruit Cups from Frugal Coupon Living

Simple and healthy - these Jack-O Lantern Fruit Cups are sure to be a hit with the family. They couldn’t be simpler to make either. Simply scoop out the inside of each orange (this bit’s great for a smoothie!) and cut out faces that resemble a Jack-O-Lantern - you can really get creative with this if you dare.

Then fill each Jack-O-Lantern with your favourite fruit and you’ll have some delicious snacks that are great for Halloween parties.

Halloween Baked Potato Skin Pizzas from Alida’s Kitchen

What you'll need:

  • As many baked potatoes as you need!
  • Cooking spray
  • Tomato basil sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Olives, pepperoni, peppers, mushrooms and any other pizza toppings you can think of

First of all, pre-heat your oven to 200°C and line your baking sheet with foil. Then bake the potatoes for around 40 minutes until they’re nice and soft, before taking them out of the oven and letting them cool down for a bit.

Once cooled, scoop out the middle part of your potatoes. This part can be used for some delicious halloween mash by adding some green food colouring! Put back in to your potato skins, spray the skin side of them with cooking spray and place face down on the baking sheet. Bake for ten minutes until they’re nice and golden.

When they’re ready, take the skins out of the oven and fill each one with your tomato and basil sauce and sprinkle with cheese, before decorating with your toppings - Halloween style. Yum!

Each one of these spooky snacks would be perfect for serving at a Halloween themed party, or a scary movie marathon! Why not share your images with us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram? You’ll have to be quick though, delicious food like this doesn’t stay around for long!
