Getting the Hygge Look for Your Living Room This Autumn

18 September 2017

If you haven’t heard about hygge (pronounce hoo-gah) yet, this autumn/winter will be inundated with it. In a nutshell, hygge is a Danish concept for cosiness. When the cold sets in, and the nights get longer, the Danish will focus on candle light, wood fires and woollen blankets to create an intimate and inviting sanctuary in their homes.

So how do you get the hygge look for your home? Easy - one trip to B&M will supply you with a trolleyful of amazing Scandinavian-inspired items to make your home a warm, wintry nest to come home to after a long day.

Here’s our pick of the best hygge accessories for living rooms and lounges, so you can stay as snug as a bug in a rug during the coldest months of the year!

Candles

The number one hygge accessory - the candle. This Woodland Wick candle has an amazing seasonal fragrance of apple and cinnamon that will make your home smell of autumn. This candle is also available in Iced Cranberry and Winter Berries - the perfect accompaniment for evenings at home watching movies and baking.

Cushions

Hygge is all about cosiness and comfort - and these gorgeous, oversized Fairisle-style cushions are ideal for throwing on to the sofa for the next few months. This range of cushions are available in red Nordic, grey Nordic, natural stag and charcoal stag and will be the ideal accessories for curling up on the sofa.

Nordic throws

The rules of hygge dictate that you can never have too many blankets. And these Sherpa throws are pure indoor cosiness - and instrumental to a winter long binge of box sets and Netflix. Grab a couple of these and drape them over sofas when not in use for a comfy inviting look.

Curtains

Hygge is about keeping the warmth in, so when the day draws to an end, you can rely on these curtains to keep the atmosphere cosy and intimate. These curtains are fully lined and also come in cream, duck egg and mauve.

Rug

Make sure the floor is soft and warm with this tonal grey chevron rug. Neutral enough to suit most rooms, surrounding yourself in soft fabrics is an important part of the Scandinavian look.

Coffee Table

We love the Ercol-inspired design of the Jarvis wooden coffee table - perfectly Scandi and one of the key autumn interior trends this year. Rest your mug of hot chocolate while you hunker down on the sofa for the evening!

Ceramic house table lamp

How adorable is this ceramic house table lamp? Perfect for the mantelpiece or side table, this is a lamp that doubles as a cute homely ornament for the winter months.

Lanterns

Because you can never have too many candles in winter. These lanterns, available in a gorgeous copper finish are great to place near a hearth or on windowsills to create a warm candle lit hue.
