5 Essentials for Hosting a Baby Shower
31 January 2017
Are you or someone you know expecting a little bundle of joy? If so, you’re probably thinking about planning a baby shower. The culture of baby showers has largely come over from the States, with gorgeous gifts and even more gorgeous baby-themed decorations to make the transition into motherhood easier.
Planning a baby shower is lots of fun, but it also takes quite a lot of organisation to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible. To take a bit of the pressure off, here are some of our tips for hosting a baby shower UK style!
Decide on a theme

To throw the perfect baby shower, it’s essential to choose a theme to ensure that everything and everyone looks the part! The main indication for what the theme should be depends on whether you’re expecting a boy or a girl, but don’t worry if you’re not finding out the sex until the birth. There are loads of amazing gender-neutral themes out there that look gorgeous, so you can create a beautiful, Insta-worthy shower for the mum-to-be!
Get creative with the food

What happens at a baby shower party? Food, food and more food! The trick to throwing an incredible baby shower is to serve up some wonderful finger foods that everyone will love. Don’t be afraid to get creative either - we’re thinking marshmallow pops, cute cookies and even some super-fun fruit and veg platters!
Organise some baby-themed games

No, we’re not talking hide and seek or peekaboo! But organising some fun baby-themed games is sure to have everyone laughing! Here are some of our favourites:
-
Guess the chocolate bar in the nappy: melt some different chocolate bars into individual nappies and have your guests smell each one. The person who guesses the most correct chocolate bars wins! This idea is courtesy of the wonderful Baby Showers 123 blog.
-
Guess the baby food: fancy yourself a food connoisseur? Simply take the labels off each jar of baby food and have your guests guess what it is from the taste.
-
Gender reveal voting: a fantastic one if the mum-to-be has yet to reveal the baby’s gender. Have each guest cast their vote as they walk into the shower - everyone who guessed correctly wins a choccie bar.
Discuss gifts with guests

If you’re a friend of the mum-to-be, and you’re planning a surprise baby shower, it’s a good idea to discuss with the guests what they are planning to bring as a gift. This stops anyone from bringing the same present (trust us - it does happen!), and means that the mum-to-be will have a lovely broad range of gifts to ease the stresses of being a mum!
Some fabulous gift ideas include:
-
A hospital survival kit (i.e. comfortable slippers, light dressing gown, magazines, makeup wipes etc),
-
Some cute baby clothes.
Remember the shower flowers!

Nothing beats a baby shower that’s jam-packed full of beautiful fresh flowers! We recommend popping a note in your diary, or a reminder on your phone, to collect the flowers the day before the event, if not on the actual day!
