2018's Top Destinations for a Winter Getaway
25 January 2018
With the chaotic festive period over for another year, you might be wondering when your next day off is.
Well there's no need to wait any longer! Turn on your out of office, put on your smug face and grab your suitcase: you're headed on a well earned winter getaway (after a month of hard work, you really do deserve it!)
Take a look at B&M's top mini-break destinations and get some ideas on how to rid yourself of those January blues.
Athens, Greece
Tourism and the heat of Greece in the summer months is difficult to cope with, but early in the year it’s much easier to move around in the reduced, but still warm, temperatures.
Head over to Athens and walk around the Parthenon. Without hundreds of tourists in your photographs or bumping into you, it'll be easier to take a cabin bag for your possessions, like your camera, phone and money.
On top of the fewer tourists and more manageable heat, the pricing is also much cheaper than the summer.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
If you’re looking for a cheap getaway with great food, drink and culture – and just a short flight away – then Amsterdam is the perfect place.
It can be quite chilly, with average temperatures in winter sitting around 3°C, so take your big coat, scarves and gloves, and rock up in style with a Beverly Hills Polo Club Suitcase - housing plenty of room for all of your essentials.
However, that shouldn’t stop you having fun with a ride along the canal and plenty of museums to visit. Get hold of an I Am Amsterdam City Card and get free access to museums and public transport!
Venice, Italy
Venice will be similar in temperature to Amsterdam in February, but you will overcome the cold thanks to the sheer romance of the city.
Head over to arguably the most romantic city in Europe with your loved one just before Valentine’s Day, and pack plenty of glamorous outfits for nights on the town in a 69cm Rose Floral Suitcase. Enjoy a ride on a gondola around the picturesque canals that weave in and out of the buildings.
To top things off, Venice features stunning food and tourist opportunities like Piazza San Marco and the Grand Canal.
New York City, America
Temperatures get even colder on the east coast of the United States of America at this time of year, but the views and experiences on offer in the Big Apple are well worth an extra pair of socks.
With it being so cold and the amount of walking you'll do around the city, it's best to pack plenty of clothes and a couple of pairs of comfortable shoes, so use as much space as you can with an 80cm Sovereign Suitcase.
Walk around Times Square and gaze at the amazing light show from the advertising boards; hop on a ferry over to the Statue of Liberty; sample the fine food on offer in Little Italy and, last but not least, take a birds-eye look over Manhattan from the top of the Empire State Building, sampling stunning views of one of the greatest cities on earth.
