A B&M colleague braved the freezing conditions to complete a sponsored ‘Sleep Out’ in Liverpool City Centre.
Regional People Business Partner Kellie Walters spent the night sleeping rough with her father and homelessness outreach workers from Mr Old Hall Street Kitchen. They wanted to raise awareness for the growing homelessness issue as well as much needed funds to help the volunteer group provide basic essentials to those most vulnerable in society.
A generous and valued member of the team, Kellie set out to raise £100 for Mr Old Hall St Kitchen but soon smashed the goal by raising over £1700! This success will bring help to the homeless in Liverpool over the winter and support struggling families to have a Christmas they would otherwise never have had.
On the night of the 9th December Kellie’s experience was both insightful and humbling, enabling her to see the reality of homelessness. Describing her experience, Kellie said:
‘It was extremely challenging to settle down for the night and I still had zero sleep as I felt vulnerable, although we had people around us – it was still unsettling. It was also too cold to sleep.’
Furthermore, Kellie described how grateful she is to have a home, a bath to heat her up, a bed to get into and how emotional it was on Saturday knowing people live like this 24/7.
With the funds raised Mr Old Hall St Kitchen will be able to keep providing their services this winter. The Mr Old Hall St Kitchen is a group of volunteers who go out every Tuesday and Thursday night feeding and clothing the homeless and vulnerable of Liverpool.
