B&M Signs Armed Forces Covenant

01 August 2024 - All UK and Northern Ireland Charity News

B&M is delighted to announce that on 25th July, B&M signed the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC).

The Covenant is a promise to uphold fairness and respect for those who have served in the Armed Forces and their families in all aspects of society. B&M recognises the incredible skill and dedication of serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and military families and we are committed to uphold fairness and respect for them all.

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant includes the following pledges:

  • Promoting the Armed Forces: Promoting on B&M Benefits Platform and bmstores.co.uk to our colleagues, customers, suppliers, contractors and wider public, that we are an armed forces-friendly organisation.
  • Recruitment: We commit to offer a guaranteed interview in response to written applications received from Armed Forces Personnel.*
  • Veterans: supporting the employment of veterans, recognising military skills and qualifications in our recruitment and selection process; working with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) to support the employment of service leavers.
  • Service Spouses & Partners: supporting the employment of Service spouses and partners. Providing flexibility in considering requests for Service spouses and partners before, during and after a partner’s deployment.
  • Reserves: We commit to support our colleagues who are members of the Reserve Forces; giving consideration to paid/unpaid requests for annual Reserve Forces training.
  • Cadet Organisations: supporting our employees who are volunteer leaders in military cadet organisations, considering additional leave to attend annual training camps and courses; actively encouraging members of staff to become volunteer leaders in cadet organisations; supporting local military cadet units; recognising the benefits of employing cadets/ex-cadets within the workforce.
  • National Events: supporting Armed Forces Day, Reserves Day, the Poppy Appeal Day and Remembrance activities.

To facilitate the recruitment process, we have created a dedicated inbox for Armed Forces Personnel to use when applying for roles within B&M: AFRecruitment@bmstores.co.uk.

We recognise that transitioning to civilian life can be challenging, so we will be working closely with the CTP to drive recruitment. Veterans, reservists, and serving personnel have unique qualities and skills, and we aim to make joining the B&M family as easy and straightforward as possible.

* When a veteran applies for a job at B&M they should use the dedicated contact address AFRecruitment@bmstores.co.uk and include details of their veteran status. A guaranteed interview will be offered to a veteran provided they meet the essential criteria for an advertised role. Selection procedures will ensure the best candidate for the job is appointed based on objective criteria for the role.
